Old Chicago to Open Refreshed Concept in Garden City

Stone Development Inc. today announced its ground breaking on a new development in Garden City, Kan. that includes the newly re-branded Old Chicago Pizza and Taproom, based in Denver, CO. and operated as a franchisee location. The Old Chicago in Garden City represents the first location of a multi-unit franchise development agreement.

The new Old Chicago location will be approximately 6,000 sq. ft. and will include its newly updated look and enhanced menu that were introduced with its recent brand refresh. The new development is expected to be operating by November 2013.

According to Stone Development Owner Amro Samy, Old Chicago is a great fit for the town of Garden City. The growing community is expanding quickly and Old Chicago will be at the forefront of its economic boom.

“We are very familiar with the Garden City market, having successfully developed many other concepts here, and we are committed to helping fuel the local economy. The Old Chicago brand and concept is completely unique to the area and we felt its modern, family-friendly ambience is a great fit for Garden City’s neighborhood culture. We are excited for this opportunity and want to thank everyone involved who helped the development come to fruition,” said Amro Samy, owner of Stone Development, Inc.

The new Old Chicago restaurant location is part of a $25 million development site that will also include a 22,000 square foot water park and a 90-room hotel, estimated to bring 126 full-time jobs. Samy says the project development team, including Molly Basham and Reynaldo Mesa, worked closely with the development attorney’s from Polsinelli Law Firm out of Kansas City, the Garden City Mayor Dan Fankhauser and City Manager Matt Allen as well as the City of Garden City Commission, the Finney County Commission, the County Administrator and Finney County EcoDevo to bring the entire project together.

“The City of Garden City has been assisting a local team on developing a hotel, restaurant and water park attraction concept east of the US 83-50/400 bypass and south of Schulman Avenue to redevelop the property previously occupied by The Fun Center and C&D World of Wheels. It is exciting that this project and this community captured the attention and excitement of a national brand like Old Chicago.  The City Commission has been strategic about promoting development that will continue to attract people to live, visit and shop all of what Garden City offers,” said Mayor Dan Fankhauser.

Old Chicago will bring its revamped menu to the new concept in Garden City. Among the new menu changes is the newly introduced tavern-style thin crust pizza, salads with homemade dressings, shareable appetizers, a line of Panini sandwiches and an expanded pasta section.

Old Chicago will also bring its specialty craft beer to the neighborhood. Old Chicago offers a wide variety of craft beers from around the world. With its brand refresh, it unveiled 36 taps of the highest quality beer from local and regional breweries. The restaurant also will host exclusive brewery events and pre-release beers.

The city is working with a developer to build a $30 million retail shopping center across the street from the Old Chicago site. This retail center will help drive traffic to the new restaurant and add to the expanding community.

Old Chicago Garden City will be located approximately at 2800 Shulman Ave., Garden City, Kan. 67846. For more information, visit www.oldchicago.com.
